Wolfon is being used in MEDT 7490 Visual and Media Literacy and MEDT 7472 Introduction to Distance Education as a platform for online communication and collaboration. Students enrolled in the Media M. Ed, and Ed. S programs offered by the Department of Educational Technology and Foundations (ETF) participate in synchronous sessions throughout the semester, and engage in different activities such as scavenger hunts, small group discussions, virtual field trips, object building, lectures, etc.
Wolfton offers a unique collaborative experience, as students share a virtual space through the use of avatars in a controlled environment, and engage in collaborative activities that foster a sense of presence.
Wolfton is being used in the EDSI 9962 Qualitative Research and Methods course as a virtual platform to conduct ethnographic research. Students are required to find an online community in SecondLife and conduct observations and interviews, as a simulation of conducting ethnographic research in an unfamiliar culture.
In addition, faculty at ETF is receiving training on how to use Wolfton in conjunction with classroom coursework.
